Gardening With Kids
Gaias and Gardens, Helping Children Grow.
“Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will never go hungry”
Gaias Organic Gardens firmly believes that our children hold the key to the future success of the planet, Gaias future literally rests in their hands. It is for this reason we are so passionate about teaching children to grow food and to consider the planet in their actions.
When the kids get involved in growing their own food it gives them an amazing sense of pride and accomplishment. The confidence built by gardening in young minds is critical for personal development. And they are also more likely to eat the array of healthy nutritious vegetables they have lovingly nurtured to full maturity.
Gardening has so many benefits in the development of young minds aside from teaching them a life long skills:
Connection And Appreciation For Nature
Knowledge Of Where Their Food Has Come From
Teaches Them Responsibility By Taking Care Of A Living Thing
Builds Confidence And Self Esteem
Getting Quality Outdoor Time And Fresh Air
Encourages Them To Eat Healthy
If They Grow It Themselves They Are More Likely To Eat It!
Carla’s lessons for children are aimed at reconnecting them with our food, in learning about the seasons, and how to grow food.
Mostly instilling interest and connectivity with nature.
Lesson Topics Include:
Gardening How To’s
Growing Food from Scraps
Aimed at children of all ages from 3 and up.
All members of our team have police clearances and working with children checks.
Present and Past Projects
Treasure Island Day Care Centre
The sensory maze and vegetable gardens, next to the nature play area outside the Treasure Island Day Care Centre has provided the little ones that attend hours of outside fun and – they have been eating the salads and vegetables provided.
Guide Dogs Association of Western Australia
The Gaias Organic Gardens team have been involved with the visibility impaired and along with the donations from other small business we built the Association a beautiful vegetable garden for everyone there to enjoy. The Children’s outdoor play ground has been spruced up with the addition of several of our favorited sensory plants to give the garden a whole other sensory level.
City of Wanneroo

Our involvement with the City of Wanneroo has seen many vegetable gardens and soon to be a sensory walk in Butler.
A Big Thank You
Carla from Gaia’s garden came to us as our gardens were in need of some tender loving care .Carla has a beautiful way with the children and educators where she imparts her love and passion for caring for our beautiful mother nature and for instilling within that a new sense of awareness that we can grow our own nutrition and yummy food ourselves. The children and staff have had the pleasure of harvesting from our three veggie gardens giant beetroot, zucchinis, lettuce our pumpkins are growing wonderfully and will be ready for yummy pumpkin soup .This beautiful love of nature and gardens is being instilled in the hearts and minds of the children here at the service the families and staff.
Our sensory garden that smells of sweet basil, mint and curry plant to the softness of lamb’s ear to the lovely marigold colours that dance in the breeze. These beautiful spaces that Carla has helped us to plant and to nurture are a great place for magical play and exploration. We look forward to an ongoing relationship with Carla from Gaia’s gardens and we celebrate our new magical gardens. Carla is certainly the garden doctor!
