Pickled Nasturtium Recipe

Pickled Nasturtium Recipe

Our nasturtium blog was one of the most popular blogs off the press yet, so seeing as you all love Nasturtiums so much, I thought I would share with you 3 ways to make pickled nasturtium pods.

Get in quick!

Nasturtiums are nearly at the end of their life cycle here in Perth so to preserve the goodness start storing your pods for a year-round supply. Using the seed pods will also stop this potential weed from taking over your garden next year, so plan ahead and EAT YOUR WEEDS!

Poor man’s capers.

Otherwise known as poor man’s capers the seed pods are by far the most undervalued thing growing in your garden, these bad boys are loaded with flavour and nutrients and are so versatile. If you’re not already using them in your cooking, let me tell you, your missing out on something amazing.

Ways you can use your Nasturtiums seeds.

-Sautee them- anything with garlic and onion, just add the seed pods to the pan and let the flavours savour begin.

-Eat them raw- the hot peppery hit will add life to any dish or salad

-Freeze them- For a year-round supply

– Pickle them- My personal favorited, recipes to follow!

Pickled Nasturtium Pod Recipe-

You will need-

Nasturtium Pods

Apple Cider Vinegar

1 table spoon Sugar

1 Bay leaf

5 Garlic Cloves

3 Small chillies

1 tablespoon pickling spice mix

Method-

Fill jar almost to top with nasturtium pods, add other ingredients shake closed jar and leave for 2-3 days. Serve on salads or as a side dish.

Alternatives, Substitute ACV for Olive oil for pickled pods that accompany tapas.

Substitute ACV & sugar for Brine (salt and water) for a more traditional pickling style.

Painfully Awesome.

The most painful part is collecting the pods, I suggest getting the kids out there to help or grabbing a glass of wine as it can be time-consuming, but I promise you it’s worth the trouble!
